Year In Review: 2017

Happy New Year everyone! This is an incredibly late post but if some of you follow me on Twitter I switched Internet providers during the holiday season and it was a terrible idea.

Me New Year’s Eve 2017. Surprise I’m super blonde!

What a wild burst of ups and downs that 2017 has been. I believe this is my third or fourth year doing a full review of my entire year in highlights. What I love about these posts is looking back at the memories made with people. Coming into 2017 was so hard on me emotionally and mentally. If you’re close to me or if you read my blog you might know that I suffer from depression and anxiety. After years of battling my demons without any medications, earlier this year I went back to taking medications. Medications do help, and I’m not ashamed to say that I am still continuing using my prescription meds to help me battle both depression and anxiety. A lot of people will tell me that it’s mind over matter and to a certain point it is, but reaching out for medical help is nothing to be ashamed of. That’s something I’ve learned to accept this year more than ever. I’ve learned to face certain fears of mine, and through it got to experience one of the best weekends of my life. Friendships have grown stronger and my academic life was tested. It was heartbreaking watching the news about the horrific events that took the lives of so many innocent people this year. It was tough watching the news at times but I am hopeful and optimistic, and I believe in the power of love and kindness that there is in this world. There’s so much more of the world that I haven’t seen and its people and culture that I am so fascinated to learn more about in 2018.
To all the people in this blog post, thank you for all the wonderful memories you have given me. I will cherish them forever. People don’t know what an impact they have on me. Everyone here has a piece of my heart. Thank you.

January– Hanging out with my best friends is the best. We always celebrate Lucy and Tesla’s birthday in January and it always consists of a bunch of laughs and pizza. It’s always a highlight when I hang with them. This year we hung out more and I got to attend the university with Tesla, I had the chance to hang out with her more.

February– I was looking through my photo library and honestly this month was a blur. I don’t have any photos for this month lol.
March– Ryan, Evie and I went to Austin and found the HBO exhibition and did an escape room. That was my first time I ever did one and it was so much fun. We hung out in Austin and got to dress up in props and pose next to the Iron Throne. It was so cool. I was having too much fun that I almost stabbed Ryan in the eye while holding a very heavy sword, sorry Ry!

Again in March I hung out with the girls and we were just being silly at my favorite pizza place Grimaldi’s.

I also hung out with Miriam a lot throughout the year which is always a bonus. We jogged, we got our nails done, went to Ultra and occasionally had lunch and movie dates.

I also went to the Game of Thrones concert experience with Ryan. The music from the show’s composer was absolutely stunning. It was hauntingly beautiful and I’m so glad I got to go. The visual components that matched the music was very cool to see!

During Spring Break I had planned a trip for Stephanie and I to see Zedd at UME! We had a blast raving and dancing through our troubles. This was my first Spring Break that I actually did something other than work or be at home. This was my second time seeing Zedd live and he killed it like always.

May– Also a blur. SORRY.
June– This month was tons of fun. Lot’s of road trips and Stephanie’s birthday! We spent a weekend by the Texas pool drinking margaritas.

July– This month we baptized my niece and I became her godmother, the ceremony was very beautiful.
For my birthday my friends and I went to the beach for a weekend. It was incredible having all the people I adore there! We had dinner too and a bunch of laughs in our hotel room.

August– This month was also filled with road trips and adventures. Miriam, Steph and I decided to go to a resort to relax. I took photos on my Snapchat (which I don’t use much by the way).
September– I went on a trip to Las Vegas with my sister and aunt. It was so much fun. I bought my sister an early birthday gift to see Britney Spears at Planet Hollywood. We couldn’t stop singing and dancing through the whole concert. Vegas was such a beautiful city I enjoyed it a lot more than I though I would.

I also took a spontaneous trip to Arizona and met some good people there that I still keep in touch with. We went to the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon.
The rest of September was just busy at school with these guys. Kim and Alex were my rock this semester. Working with them and hanging out with them was so much fun.

October/November– I celebrated my niece’s birthday as well as my sisters. At this point of the year it seemed like time was flying by so fast. During this month me and Dora went on a road trip in Austin to see Rupi Kaur perform poetry from her new book “The Sun and Her Flowers”. Her poetry reading captivated me throughout the night. I remember by the end of the night on our way back to San Antonio, Dora tested me on my old school pop music knowledge and we sang our little hearts out to Ashlee Simpson and Hilary Duff.
The three of us didn’t write our paper….remember when I said that my academic life was tested?
I saw The Weeknd with Lucy!

December– I went on a wine tour with Stephanie and Miriam that I recorded for a possible vlog. I’m thinking of starting my own vlog channel on Youtube. In high school I would create videos of my friends and family and I feel like I want to start doing it again for myself. I want to look back at those videos and memories. I’m still thinking about it.
